Kids Yoga at Fruita Yoga meets Wednesdays from 2:15-3:00pm.  The next session meets from August 23 – September 27.  Boys and girls ages 5 – 10 years are welcome to join for all 6 classes or on a drop-in basis; 6 weeks for $50 or $10.00 per class.

Academy of Yoga 200 Hour Teacher Training at Fruita Yoga

This 9-weekend teacher training course will be taught by Monica Cullinane from October 2017 – May 2018 (Oct 13-15, Nov 3-5, Dec 1-3, Jan 5-7, Feb 2-4, Feb 16-18, Mar 2-4, Apr 6-8, May 4-6). Friday evenings: 6-9pm; Saturdays & Sundays 8:45am – 4:30pm.

Course Content: Poses, breathing and meditation: 100 hours; Teaching Methodology: 25 hours; Anatomy & Physiology: 20 hours; Philosophy & Ethics: 30 hours; Practicum: 25 hours; total: 200 hours. Other topics covered include: how to adjust poses, use of props, dealing with student injuries, yogic philosophy and basic sanskrit.

Teacher trainees who successfully complete the course may register with the Yoga Alliance and use the registry mark (200 hour) in addition to the letters RYT (Registered Yoga Teacher) after their name.  They will also be awarded a teaching “Certificate of Attainment” from the Academy of Yoga.

If you are unable to commit to the full training or would like to focus on personal practice and yogic philosophy by attending one or more individual classes, you are welcome to join specific weekends a la carte.  Your study will accumulate towards a “Certificate of Attendance” from Academy of Yoga.

Participants must have at least one and preferably two years of yoga experience.  This is a practical, hands-on course, and you need to be fit, experienced and motivated to complete it.  For more information call 970-712-7051 or visit

Monica has studied yoga for 25 years with prominent teachers worldwide.  In 1998, she traveled to India to study with BKS Iyengar and has studied at the International Iyengar Institutes in London, Paris, Amsterdam, Florence, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Los Angelos, New York and Denver.  She is very involved in the “yoga scene” and attends workshops and conferences with many prominent teachers. Monica is also a certified Health and Nutrition Coach, the loving mother of two healthy children, and teaches nutrition and yoga to fulfill her passion for helping people take their lives to the next level.

Kids Yoga is offered in 6-week sessions seasonally.
Children 5-10 years old will build strength and flexibility through yoga poses that are taught in an engaging, fun and interactive way, by combining story telling and crafts to express the positive teachings of Yoga. They are also taught techniques to help concentration, focus, and relaxation that they can use in their everyday lives.
We kindly ask that you register your child for the entire 6-week session.  The 5-class pass can be used for Kids Yoga; the last class will be our gift to you.  Otherwise the drop-in rate for kids yoga is $10.00 per child.  Call 970-712-7051 to reserve your child’s spot in class.

Fruita Yoga is partnering with REI to offer FREE YOGA!

Would you like to become a better climber, paddler, backpacker, skier, or snowboarder? It starts from within. Join our yoga expert to learn the basics and develop your balance, endurance and strength (inner and physical). This in-store class will provide you with an introduction to basic yoga exercises and poses along with information on how to take yoga to the next level through insights into how you can incorporate it into your outdoor fitness routine. Note this is not a traditional yoga class – we will demonstrate a select number of poses and provide examples of how you can use these examples to modify and enhance your work out.

Saturday Morning Yoga class! Practicing yoga is an excellent way to develop strength, balance, and flexibility. Join professional yoga instructor, Michelle Checchia for an outside class tailored to help enhance your comfort when you’re out on the trail. Whether you are car camping or thru-hiking, the benefits of yoga will improve your overall experience. This is an all level class with the intent to make you feel at ease with beginning yoga.

Dissecting Your Vinyasa Sequence

Michelle Checchia, RYT200 will lead this workshop focusing on the fundamentals of the vinyasa sequence.  This workshop is designed for all levels and will explore proper alignment in the following poses; plank, chaturanga dandasana, upward facing dog, and downward facing dog.
